Jo Dworschak’s close relationship with animals started at an early age. As a young girl on Vancouver Island, she eagerly began working as a stable hand and soon progressed to become a horse trainer. She quickly found that she excelled in dealing with difficult horses. It was then, Jo discovered her natural ability to establish bonds with animals. It was this early lesson of developing a strong rapport became a core belief in her life. It was also her primary tool when working with large or small animals alike.

In 2003 Jo moved to the Commercial Drive neighbourhood and adopted her beloved dog Shep from the Vancouver Pound. Shep was yet another wounded creature that Jo had encountered who needed a strong and loving leader. A dog from a broken home, Shep had many issues. He would ransack the house, instigate fights with other dogs and howl continuously when left alone.
